The Royal Oak is a traditional country pub nestled in the idyllic, historic village of Burton -n-Kendal. This 18th century inn has been newly refurbished to create a cosy haven with modern charm.
As a family run pub, we offer homely classic food with a flair and a fantastic selection of local and renowned beverages.
You can enjoy relaxing and warming by a real open fire in the winter or soaking up the sunshine in our spacious beer garden during the summer.
So, whether you are stopping by for an award winning cask ale, indulging in some of our wholesome, locally sourced food or popping in for a coffee and sweet treat, you are always guaranteed a warm welcome from our friendly team.
The earliest reference to the Royal Oak was in 1757 when the first stage coach came through the village in place of pack horses. The Royal Oak was a place where sales of local land and agricultural sales took place. The first Post Office formed part of the historic building and Royal Mail and post coaches ran daily.
There were stables and a wide archway leading into the yard, several acres of land and a coachman’s cottage with old cruck beams.
A bunch of iron grapes hung over the front door which indicated fine wines were available at the pub, this has been recreated and is on display over the front door.
The Royal Oak has changed hands numerous times over the years and has been closed since 2005. It has recently been renovated to a high standard, to create a lovely comfortable pub in the heart of the village. Some of the original oak timbers and beams have been restored and reused to add to its characteristic charm.
Burton-in-Kendal is a picturesque village situated in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside.
It provides easy access to the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and Lancashire – all within a 20 minute drive.
The M6 motorway is approximately 4 miles away which is convenient when travelling North or South.
There is a local bus service which runs frequently through the village and stops directly outside the pub. It enables you to conveniently visit the scenic Lake District villages and towns and the local towns and cities like Carnforth, Lancaster and Kendal.
There are many beautiful walks and cycle routes to enjoy from Burton-in-Kendal, which gives you the opportunity to explore the local area and beyond.
